Fall 2016 Artist-in-Residence Radcliffe Bailey
Continuing the residency’s record of strong, provocative, and relevant artists-in-residence, the Atlanta-based Radcliffe taught a weekly seminar for graduate students and select undergraduate seniors this spring. In addition, Bailey had an open studio schedule, engage with graduate student studio visits, and be featured in a culminating exhibition tentatively scheduled for fall 2016.
Internationally renowned artist Radcliffe Bailey grew up in Atlanta and graduated from the Atlanta College of Art in 1991. Mr. Bailey has been represented by Jack Shainman Gallery in New York City since 2002. He was also represented by Solomon Projects gallery in Atlanta, culminating with his solo exhibition Windward Coast in 2009. His solo exhibition Memory as Medicine, took place at the High Museum of Art, Atlanta in 2011. He served as Resident Faculty at the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture in Skowhegan, Maine in 2006. Mr. Bailey has won many awards, including a Joan Mitchell Grant in 2008 and the Elizabeth and Mallory Factory Prize for Southern Art at the Gibbes Museum, Charleston, SC in 2010. Mr. Bailey’s work is included in important public collections, such as the Art Institute of Chicago, the Birmingham Museum of Art, the Blanton Museum of Art, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the Harvard University Art Collection, the High Museum of Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Mr. Bailey’s work has been reviewed in the New York Times, the Village Voice, Art in America, Flash Art, Artforum, Art News, and Art Papers, among many others.
