Why Study at the E. G. Welch School of Art & Design?
BENEFIT FROM AN URBAN SETTING, PROFESSIONAL NETWORKS, & INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH
AFFORDABLE: We are proud to offer a range of funding opportunities to our students. The the majority of MFA students receive scholarships or full funding for their master's degree journey. All undergraduates are eligible for faculty-nominated scholarships. However, it's important to note that while we endeavor to provide financial support to all eligible candidates, our program is competitive and not every student may receive full funding. We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive community of artists, and we work diligently to ensure that financial constraints do not hinder the pursuit of creative excellence.
URBAN: The downtown location encourages connections with local art networks, such as the High Museum of Art, Atlanta Contemporary, MOCA GA and a solid network of commercial galleries, alternative spaces and grassroots artist organizations. Alumni, faculty, and students are very involved in the expanding and ever-evolving scene of the international hub, having founded a number of artist-run organizations, nonprofits and creative publications.
GALLERY: The Welch School Galleries support the curriculum by curating regional, national and international art exhibitions throughout the year, while providing a venue for thesis exhibitions. The galleries host presentations and panel discussions, providing students with access to professional artists and scholars.
PROGRAMS: The Visiting Artist & Scholar Lecture Series offers a year-round calendar of lectures that provides students with access to a diverse mix of renowned artists and scholars encouraging artistic discourse and leading studio critiques and workshops.
STUDIOS & RESOURCES: Students have access to 24-hour access to private & semi-private studio space, which allows for creative exploration and research in their area of study. Each area has discipline-specific studio spaces, which include a woodshop, metal shop, iron forge, 3D and laser cut printers, Adobe Creative Suite computer labs, wheel throwing and kilns, screen printing and litho presses, a dark room, dye stations, looms, sewing machines, plotters and more, all with 24-hour access.
