2016 18th Annual Juried Student Exhibition

The Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design Galleries at Georgia State University is pleased to present undergraduate and graduate student work selected by our juror, esteemed Atlanta-based artist and Welch Artist in Residence Radcliffe Bailey.  Photography, painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, ceramic design and multi-media works will be installed in both galleries. The awards ceremony and reception on Thursday, April 21st at 5pm is free and open to the public.

About the juror:
Internationally renowned artist Radcliffe Bailey grew up in Atlanta and graduated from the Atlanta College of Art in 1991. Mr. Bailey has been represented by Jack Shainman Gallery in New York City since 2002. He was also represented by Solomon Projects gallery in Atlanta, culminating with his solo exhibition Windward Coast in 2009. His solo exhibition Memory as Medicine, took place at the High Museum of Art, Atlanta in 2011. He served as Resident Faculty at the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture in Skowhegan, Maine in 2006. Mr. Bailey has won many awards, including a Joan Mitchell Grant in 2008 and the Elizabeth and Mallory Factory Prize for Southern Art at the Gibbes Museum, Charleston, SC in 2010. His work is also included in many important public collections such as the Art Institute of Chicago, the Birmingham Museum of Art, the Blanton Museum of Art, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the Harvard University Art Collection, the High Museum of Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The Welch School of Art & Design is pleased and honored to have Mr. Bailey as not only our juror, but also as the 2016 Welch Artist-in-Residence, teaching and mentoring Graduate students as well as presenting his own work in a culminating exhibition Fall 2016.
