ART STUDENT UNION
About
The Georgia State Art Student Union exists as the over-arching student organization within the Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design. Under the ASU, each art field has a separate chartered sub-group that the Art Student Union funds: for ceramics, SLIPS; for photography, Exclucis: for printmaking, Printmaker’s Workshop; for painting and drawing, DUPA; for art history, the Art History Student’s League, and for graduates, The Graduate Artist Forum (GAF).

The Art Student Union Goal
Our goal is to create a sense of community and encourage collaboration among graduate students and undergraduate students in the different fields offered for study in the school. The Art Students Union acts as a liaison between art students, art faculty, alumni, and university administration, as well as the local, national and international art worlds.
The most important component of our programming is the Visiting Artists Program. It is designed to provide a forum for established artists whose working methods challenge the expectations of the artist in the community and who will most inspire the students. We bring artists and historians to the university for lectures and workshops, in the process educating and inspiring students to have a more humanistic attitude towards their education.
The ASU administers ‘X-Project,’ an exhibition program that places visual art in the common areas of the Student Center. In addition to these programs, we direct and maintain the student run art space, CAGE SPACE, located on Piedmont Avenue, attached to the graduate lofts parking deck.
Finally, ASU also helps sponsor student initiated projects and fund their travel to conferences and residency programs. We currently have five elected officers: two co-presidents, one vice president, a secretary, and public relations director as well as a board of representatives from each individual student run club.
