About the Art & Design Galleries
Established in 1970, our venue is the most dynamic visual arts space in downtown Atlanta. The galleries host exhibitions featuring works by national and international artists, local and regional artists, as well as by Georgia State students, faculty and alumni artists. We incorporate presentations, artist talks and panel discussions into the gallery programming, providing students with personal access to professional artists and scholars. Graduating B.F.A. and M.F.A. students have a thesis showcase exhibition in the Welch School galleries.
Gallery events are free and open to the public.
In addition to the official school galleries, the school has student-run gallery spaces Cage Space & Gallery 650. Cage Space is a window-front gallery at Edgewood and Piedmont avenues and hosts exhibitions organized by the Art Student Union. Gallery 650 is a white-walled space on the top landing of our 6th-floor studio walkway. It is used by classes for critiques, student clubs for group shows and can be reserved for the staging and documenting of work.
