Getting started
Upon acceptance to the University, all new applicants planning to enter the Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design should schedule an initial appointment to go over our curriculum in order to effectively schedule class selection and appropriate course load. Transfer students must provide catalog course descriptions and portfolio work from each Art Studio/Art History course taken for proper evaluation and placement (not required for initial appointment). New Students intending to pursue a B.F.A. in a Studio Concentration must declare their major as AB Studio prior to applying for the advanced degree. Art History majors declare Art History, and must speak to a Faculty member of the Department of Art History for advising. Getting Involved

Art Student Union hosts Student organizations for every discipline:  AHGF/Art History Graduate Forum, GD/GSU Student Chapter,  IDO/GSU Student Chapter,  Art History Student League, DUPA, ESF/Edgewood Sculpture Forum, ExLucis Photography Club, Printmakers Workshop, SLIPS, TAG/Textiles Artisans Guild.

Internship possibilities
Welch School Gallery, High Museum of Art,  Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, CNN, Cartoon Network, Seven Stages, Art Papers, MOCA GA, and more! Faculty approval required for credit towards requirements prior to accepting the internship

Issues of the Landscape in Northeast Scotland, Egypt In the Age of the Pharaohs, Contemporary Art in Germany, Monuments and Museums of Modern Paris, Russian Art and Art Education, Studies Abroad in Visual Arts in Italy and over 40 other university-wide international programs.

Visiting Artists and Scholars Lecture Series
The Welch School hosts distinguished visiting speakers through its annual Visiting Artists and Scholars Lecture Series.  Workshops and speakers are also supported by student groups and individual disciplines.

Explore contemporary art and culture through innovative exhibitions of traditional and experimental media, performance, talks and film screenings and be part of a public dialogue about art today.
